Researches were able to grow human tissue on a robotic shoulder

Researches were able to grow human tissue on a robotic shoulder

A team from the University of Oxford and Devanthro GmbH successfully created human tissue on a robotic shoulder. One area was then flooded with fertilizers to cause that area to be the most desirable place for plants to grow.

After filling the region with nutrients, the cells then grew over a two-week period, during which the shoulder was activated for 30 minutes every day, either for things like moving or for twisting, as it does in humans.

What the researchers found is that the tissue grown in this environment was slightly different from the tissue grown in a static environment, but it remains to be seen if it is able to be used in humans. With that said, this robotic dolphin is nearly indistinguishable from its live counterpart.

Using robots for tissue engineering creates much more realistic biomechanical stimulations. We see this as a breakthrough. The next step is to establish that robot involvement is better than conventional bioreactors.
